Obituary of Randall Robert Hammons

Funeral services for Randy, will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home, and burial will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. In lieu of flowers memorials have been designated in Randy’s Name. Randall Robert “Hawk” Hammons, 53, the son of Robert and Dixie (Copeland) Hammons, was born December 11, 1960, in Newton. He attended the Newton Senior High. In 1980, Randy was united in marriage with Nancy Stearns in Newton. He devoted his life to his family, and enjoyed working on cars, outdoor activities, such as fishing, hunting and NASCAR. He was employed by Ed’s Edibles Vending, 1982-86 and by the Maytag Company, 1986-2007. Randy died Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Comfort House in Pella, under the care of Hospice. He was preceded in death by his mother Dixie, his grandparents; and his wife Nancy. Randy will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Those left to honor the Randy’s memory include his daughters and son-in-law: Monica (Ben) Rae of Newton and Melissa (Rodney) Walker of Oelwein; his son Richard Hammons (Lindsay Schutty) of Newton; his grandchildren: Reese Hammons, Leileigh Hammons, Landon Hammons and Parker Hammons; his father Robert (Pat) Hammons of Newton; and his sisters: Cindy Balmer of Newton and Sharon Hammons of Newton; and one niece and a nephew.
