Obituary of Shawn David Sabin

Please share a memory of Shawn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shawn David Sabin, of Des Moines, Iowa rode away from this world on Saturday, June 14, 2014 after attempting to avoid hitting a vehicle that turned in the path of his motorcycle in Des Moines, at the age of 29 (but he still insisted 27). Shawn’s most loved activities involved his Hayabusa Motorcycles (working on them, taking them apart and putting them back together and riding them), working on cars, ‘muddin’ with the four wheel drives on his parent’s farm, and spending time with family & friends. Shawn was born, Friday, August 24, 1984 (08/24/84 at 8:24 pm) to Dennis and Carla (Nauman) Sabin in Decatur County, Iowa. He was welcomed by his two sisters, Shannon and Shonna. When Shawn was 8 the family moved from Decatur County to rural Newton in Jasper County. He attended school in Kellogg and then later Newton. Shawn was an amazing son, beloved brother, and a fantastic uncle. Shawn didn’t always make the right choices and had made mistakes but was working to get his life on track. He was a faithful friend and if you needed someone to have your back, you knew he would be there when you called. Shawn always had a smile on his face and a heart willing to take on the problems of anyone he met. If you needed help, he was there to help. If you were in trouble he had your back. Shawn worked for Mid-Iowa Equipment of Newton at the time of his death. Shawn rode away from us on Saturday, June 14, 2014 (06/14/14 at 6:14 p.m. on S.E. 14th St). He is survived by his grandmother, Gladys Sabin of Estherville, his parents, Dennis and Carla Sabin of Newton, his sisters, Shannon Sabin of Des Moines, and Shonna (Luke) Partelow of Des Moines. “Unkie Shawn” is also survived by three nieces, Kayleigh, Hayleigh, and Shayleigh Partelow and two nephews, Xander Partelow and Marshan Sabin-Carter, a host of cousins, and a very special lady, Patsy Partelow and best friend, Mitch Stogdill as well as many, many friends. Shawn was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl & Sylvia Nauman, and his paternal grandfather, Eldon Sabin and great grandmother, Helen Eisenhower. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Shawn’s name and may be left at the funeral home.
