Obituary of Carlene L. Emmert

Carlene L. Emmert, 87, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2015, at Heritage Manor in Newton. Funeral services for Carlene will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2015, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Pastor Gary Marzolf, Newton First United Methodist Church, conducting the services. A visitation with the family will be held Thursday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials in Carlene’s name to Skiff Hospice, are being designated. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery. Carlene Lee Emmert, the daughter of William and Lena (Barron) Lattimer, was born August 18, 1927, in Newton. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, and had an Associate Bachelors of Nursing Degree, from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She was employed as a nurse with Dr. Fred Carpenter, Sr. and Jr. in Newton, retiring in 1992. Carlene was united in marriage with Richard Houser in 1948. Richard preceded her in death in 1966. In 1972, Carlene married Don Lorenzen. They had lived in Hot Springs Village, Ark, and Scottsdale, AZ. He also preceded her in death. On February 22, 1987, Carlene married William Andrew Emmert in Newton. She had devoted her life to her family and friends, and was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, a past Matron OES(Order of the Eastern Star) and White Shrine. She enjoyed life, reading, golf, knitting, traveling and her Pepsi, and will be dearly missed by those who knew and love her. Carlene was preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands: Richard Houser, Don Lorenzen and Andy Emmert; her son, Richard C. Houser in 2007; and her granddaughter, Samantha Butler. Those left to honor Carlene’s memory include her daughters: Ronda Butler and Jean Duggan; her god son, Dennis Engle; four grandchildren: Michael R. Butler (Amanda), Matthew Butler (Hollie), Jeremiah Duggan (Cassie) Amanda Gilbert (Travis); her thirteen great grandchildren; her brother, Walter (Joyce) Lattimer; nieces, Debbie (Sam) Kemp and nephew, Chris Lattimer (Carol); and her many friends.
